Kurt Jackson - Jackson Foundation Gallary, St Just.

clairesettle

During the summer I travelled to Cornwall to visit some old friends, Nic and Tracy Alford.

My friend Tracy Alford is an artist based in Dubai. Here is some of her recent work.

Both having an interest in art we travelled down to St Just to see an exhibition by Kurt Jackson. The gallery space is beautiful and spacious, and Kurt Jacksons exhbition looked impressive.

The Seal Show:-

Kurt Jackson (born 21 September 1961) is a British painter whose large canvases reflect a concern with natural history, ecology and environmental issues. In 1984 he and his wife Caroline Jackson moved to Cornwall.

He paints in mixed media, drawing inspiration from the Cornish landscape around Penwith and elsewhere in Britain and abroad.

The gallery space was light an airy with a lovely calm atmosphere which lent itself well to the subject matter, a set of pictures based on the coastline of Cornwall, often depicting seals in some form or another - the set of works were entitled:- Seal Show.

Below are a selection of Kurts work which I really liked.

I can just see six seals out on the rocks - Eastern Isles, Schilly 2023.

20 Seals below me. 2023

Serene bioblitz. Roseland 2024

Howling seals and raucous fulmers, 2022.

To the seal islands, 2023

The mixed media in this particular painting really applealed to me with the addition of some bracken foliage.

Bottling and logging just offshore, 2023
