Notes and lectures

What to learn:- the ability to independently plan

Things to consider:-

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop the ability to identify, select, and evaluate key texts and sources in relation to a practice-based research questions.

  • Demonstrate critical thinking and reflection in the context of art practice.

  • Synthesise findings from a variety of academic, artistic, and theoretical resources to support your practice.

  • Connect theory to practice, demonstrating how literature informs or challenges your creative work.

Things to think about

1. Selection and Scope of Literature

  • Have you selected a diverse and relevant range of sources, including books, journal articles, exhibition catalogues, and other critical texts?

  • Are the sources current and significant to your research area or artistic practice?

  • Have you considered a range of perspectives, including those that may challenge or complement your approach?

2. Critical Analysis

  • Do you critically analyse and reflect on the literature rather than simply summarising it?

  • Have you identified the key arguments from the literature, explaining their relevance to your practice?

  • Are you able to draw connections between different sources, identifying gaps, contradictions, or supporting ideas?

3. Structure and Clarity

  • Is your review logically structured with clear and coherent arguments?

  • Have you clearly articulated your research question or focus and maintained relevance throughout the review?

5. Academic Writing and Referencing

  • Is the writing clear, concise, and academic in tone?

  • Are all sources correctly cited using a consistent referencing style?

  • Have you demonstrated a scholarly approach to the presentation of your research?

Notes:

Zines are now bing accepted. Y University libraries as valid documents of experience sociology and research.

“Presentation to communicate ideas and materials used”. References are important.   This will feed back into your studio production - think observe, plan, act, reflect.  Conclusion and summaries what you have talked about.  Get someone to ask you a question which you have pre-arranged/primed.

Whenever you are doing a search on anything always put PDF after the search item which then gives you a real proper information which you can then cite.

Stuff that is useful to include.

Meeting memos and notes

Researhers personal observations of the activities in which she is involved

Photographic and video documentation of the activities

Completed drafts, plans, and art pieces

Sketched, drawings and other planning and design material made by the researcher or other participants

Docuents of the activities and evaluation discussion

Various interviews, questionnaires and other feedback.

You need an overview of your studio practice - introduce what you need to know- introduce aims

Start to write about materials will be used and the pitfalls of some of the materials, and how this may affect what you do and how the production might change

Junk glass - can it be fused?

Silver in glass does not work well, the silver tends to oxidise within the glass, which is hard to prevent.  Even when the silver piece is clean and free from obvious oxidation - first brushed with soft wire brush and then soaked in vinegar.

What are my aims?

Contact the manufacturers of Jesmonite to ask about the best type to use.

How to make a mould, Silicon can be used but where there is a lack of funds this can be an issue and I am keen not to create unecessary waste

What are the materials I am going to use.  What problems might occur in this plan.

To include glass, will float glass work and if not why, and using bullseye has its limitations.  There will need to be images in the glass to symbolise the

How might this affect your outcomes for your art piece?

Float glass

Disadvantages of Float Glass

  • It is highly fragile and brittle, making it difficult to ship without damage.

  • It is less transparent than acrylic due to its slightly green tint.

  • When glass breaks, it shatters, which can damage the framed artwork or, worse, cause injury.

Tin - problems with firing. Testing tin with water. Time side water spreaders out, normal side it doesn’t. Polishing tin off using Solvol autosol.
